Temptation...

Hey GEM girls! What does the word temptation bring to your mind? Maybe guilt or a sense of helplessness? Even though we might not like to admit it, we face temptations every day. Sometimes we give in and sometimes we don't. But why are temptations even a problem in our lives?

Back in the Garden of Eden, Eve made a choice that changed the course of history forever. She chose to give in to Satan's temptation. Satan tempted her by telling her that she would be like God and would not die. (You can read about it in Genesis 3)

The fact that Eve was tempted, was not a sin. What made it a sin is that she dwelled and acted on it. If Eve had walked away from the temptation she would not have sinned.

Sin is a choice. When we choose to give in to temptation, we sin. It becomes a sin not before we give in, but after.

So how can we avoid giving in to temptation? Well in Romans 6:16, the Bible says, "Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living." (NLT)

We have a choice to make. Do we want to be sinners or children of God? God says, "I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life."(Deuteronomy 30:19-20, NLT)

Let's choose life, GEM girls!
